The Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA) was established 20 years ago to bring training funding and support to qualified companies across Pennsylvania through a network of community colleges, state system universities and other educational institutions. The goal of WEDnet is to strengthen the business environment in Pennsylvania by helping companies improve the skill and productivity of their workers.
Until July 2019, nursing homes have not been eligible for assistance under this program. Through PHCA advocacy, nursing homes are among the healthcare facilities eligible for Essential Skills and Technical Skills training assistance. Essential Skills Training provides instruction in a variety of skills needed to be successful in the workplace. Eligible activities will be those that improve the essential job skills for the employee’s current position, including infection preventionist training or wound care specialists among others. Technical Skills Training provides instruction in a variety of technology subjects including electronic medical records and other applications.
The maximum reimbursement for Essential Skills Training is $600 per eligible employee up to $75,000 per company. The maximum reimbursement is $1,200 per eligible employee up to $50,000 per company for Technical Skills Training.
