PHCA, Politics and the Pandemic: Advocating for Long-Term Care in 2021

March 11, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

This webinar will be presented by Zach Shamberg, President and CEO, and Tim Ward, Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs, both with PHCA.

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed nearly every aspect of long-term care in Pennsylvania. So, too, has it transformed our advocacy efforts and the ways in which we message the needs of our healthcare heroes on the frontlines of the pandemic and the residents they serve.  Throughout the past year, PHCA has worked to change the narrative surrounding long-term care and advance an agenda that will support providers across the Commonwealth. But the only way we’ll achieve true success is with your help.  Policy decisions in Harrisburg have an effect on the way in which you operate. Whether it’s support for vaccine prioritization, testing, PPE, or the elimination of duplicative reporting requirements, the laws our legislators create today will have repercussions on our industry tomorrow.

Throughout the next few months, our efforts will be focused in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C., as we advocate for a favorable operating climate for nursing homes, personal care and assisted living.

This webinar will walk you through the advocacy process and how to best share your message with local legislators. In these unique times, we will focus on how to effectively execute a digital advocacy strategy by highlighting different tools at your disposal to advance our agenda from the safety of your home or office. You’ll also learn about the specific issues that we will be focused on throughout 2021. No matter what we’re asking of the legislature, it is critical that we have well-established relationships to convey our message.

Your learning objectives include:

  1. Learn how to deliver talking points to legislators,
  2. Discuss relevant legislation and potential legislative impact on LTC,
  3. Review legislative priorities,
  4. Develop relationship-building strategies,
  5. Build advocacy plans and events.
