Skilled nursing facilities and nursing facilities are required to be in compliance with the requirements contained in 42 CFR Part 483, Subpart B, to receive payment under the Medicare or Medicaid programs.

It is divided into 50 titles that represent broad areas subject to Federal regulation. Title 42 is the Public Health section which includes regulatory provisions for long-term care facilities.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued S & C: 16-38-ALL to provide notification of the publication of the final  Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers.
