PHCA/CALM Names Russ McDaid President

Russ McDaid has nearly two decades of experience in long-term care policy, long history of advocacy for Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable residents

HARRISBURG — Stuart H. Shapiro, M.D., the CEO of the Pennsylvania Health Care Association and the Center for Assisted Living Management, today announced that, effective immediately, W. Russell McDaid, M.H.A, has been promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of the association. McDaid is a long-time advocate for care of the state’s elderly and disabled residents and a veteran health and human services policy advisor. Shapiro will continue to serve as PHCA/CALM Chief Executive Officer.

“We are honored to name Russ as President and COO. His knowledge of long-term care issues and leadership is invaluable for PHCA/CALM, its member facilities and the residents they serve,” said Shapiro. “His track record of success in Harrisburg and his years of experience serving every corner of our commonwealth is a tremendous asset for the association as we address new opportunities and challenges in the years ahead. I look forward to continuing to work in close partnership with Russ representing the association’s members and the residents they serve.”

Shapiro added, “There are few individuals who have gained the respect of all segments of the sub-acute, long-term care and assisted living communities as has Russ. He has worked with both the non-profit and for-profit sectors, and his experiences, insight, and well deserved respect, should help the association serve its members and continue its growth.” Currently, PHCA/CALM is the largest association servicing these sectors.

McDaid joined PHCA/CALM in April 2013 as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President. Prior to joining PHCA/CALM he spent nearly two decades in health and human services policy. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Policy Officer for LeadingAge PA, an association representing not-for-profit senior care and service providers. Prior to joining LeadingAge PA, he was a senior health and human services policy advisor to Governors Tom Ridge and Mark Schweiker. He ended his tenure with those administrations as the Deputy Director of the Governor’s Policy Office.

McDaid graduated from Penn State University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast/Cable Communications in 1990 and his Master of Health Administration in 1995.
