PHCA/CALM Congratulates Ted Dallas Upon Confirmation as DHS Secretary

Even as quality improves, frivolous lawsuit filings continue unabated

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Health Care Association/Center for Assisted Living Management (PHCA/CALM) congratulates Ted Dallas, who was confirmed Tuesday as secretary of the state Department of Human Services.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Secretary Dallas on the many funding and policy issues that affect Pennsylvania’s seniors” said Stuart H. Shapiro, M.D., CEO of PHCA/CALM. “Secretary Dallas understands that these are challenging times for Pennsylvania seniors and those who provide their care.

“Governor Wolf was fortunate to have recruited Secretary Dallas back to Pennsylvania, and we appreciate his willingness to work with all stakeholders to assure that seniors get the services they need to live a healthy, safe, high-quality life with the dignity and respect they deserve.

“We are confident that Secretary Dallas will lead the commonwealth in creating a strong and stable long-term care delivery system that ensures that limited available state resources serve the greatest number of people in the safest, most appropriate, least restrictive and cost-effective setting possible,” Dr. Shapiro said.

Pennsylvania’s population is aging rapidly and the demand for long-term care services is growing, especially among residents and patients who have higher acuity levels, more complex medical needs and chronic health conditions that require around-the-clock care.
