The Quality Initiative is a national effort that builds upon the existing work of the long term and post-acute care profession by setting specific, measurable targets on (1) Staff Stability, (2) Hospital Readmissions, (3) Customer Satisfaction and (4) Antipsychotics to further improve quality of care in America’s assisted living communities.

INTERACT is an acronym for “Interventions to Reduce Acute Care Transfers”. The overall goal of the INTERACT program is to reduce the frequency of transfers to the acute hospital. There are three basic types of tools: 1) Communication tools; 2) Care Paths or Clinical tools and 3) Advance Care Planning tools.

The PSO will collect data electronically on important clinical outcomes and processes including: hospital readmissions, off-label use of antipsychotics, medication errors, falls and fall assessments, pressure ulcers, pain management and many others.

NCAL conducts an annual survey on performance measures, collecting performance data on important quality improvement areas including community operations, employee satisfaction and development.

The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program provides a pathway for providers of long term and post-acute care services to journey towards performance excellence. Member centers may apply for three progressive levels of awards: Bronze—Commitment to Quality, Silver—Achievement in Quality or Gold—Excellence in Quality.

The NCAL Awards Program recognizes assisted living employees from around the country who demonstrate exemplary work within the profession. Each year, members may nominate colleagues for four categories: NCAL Administrator of the Year, NCAL Assisted Living Nurse of the Year, Noble Caregiver in Assisted Living Award and the National Assisted Living Week Programming Award.
