PDPM Intensive: Planning Now for Long Term Success

February 6 @ 3:00 pm - February 7 @ 5:00 pm

PHCA, in partnership with Zimmet Healthcare Services Group (ZHSG), is offering a 1.5-day intensive educational event on the new Medicare Part A Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM).

CMS promotes PDPM as a system designed to “reduce the administrative burden on providers,” yet the new model is far more complex than its predecessor. The intricacies of the new payment system and the resources needed to properly prepare will challenge even the most competent providers. PDPM is not a singular payment system change – it is comprised of three distinct new rate-setting methodologies, in addition to the latest iteration of the familiar “nursing” RUG model. SNF “Eligibility” rules do not change, but PDPM will make mundane issues such as length of stay and daily clinical monitoring seem like novel concepts that can disrupt the industry’s delicate revenue/compliance equation. Meanwhile, PDPM will create wide variations among SNFs’ per diem rates, with the potential to suddenly destabilize established provider networks. Preparation requires an accretive, multidisciplinary approach that is meticulously structured, effectuated, measured and continually refined.

Learning Objectives:

  • PDPM Overview: Strategic Planning = Success: A comprehensive overview of PDPM structural mechanics and compliance strategies.
  • PDPM Beyond the Basics: Nursing Components: Overview of the nursing components related to PDPM.
  • PDPM Beyond the Basics: Therapy Components: Overview of the therapy components related to PDPM.
  • Wrap Up: Practicing Dynamic Performance Measures: Team members from the same organizations work together on assessment-competencies and benefit period management execution drills.
