Medicare Documentation and Billing Workshops

July 18, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

With the new Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) becoming effective beginning October 1, 2019, it is imperative that providers work on strengthening their interdisciplinary teams to create a holistic approach to admissions, documentation, and billing to maximize reimbursement under this new Medicare fee-for-service payment model.

PHCA is offering a half-day workshop to assist providers in building a holistic team approach that will focus on admissions and billing. The morning workshop is for admissions staff and the afternoon workshop is for the billing staff. A full-day workshop is also available which includes both the Admissions Workshop and the Billing Workshop with lunch on your own.

Learning Objectives:

  • Implement new safeguards in the admissions and billing processes to ensure accurate and appropriate Medicare payment.
  • Assemble the expanded reimbursement management team and refine processes for each member.
  • Identify key sources of documentation required to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Define “reimbursement-logic tests” to reveal mutually exclusive component scores that compromise revenue.

Primary Staff/Audiences:

  • Billers
  • Admissions
  • Social Services
  • RNACs
  • Coders
  • Staff responsible for the MDS
  • Anyone involved in the admissions process

Workshops: PHCA members pay only $59 for a half-day workshop and $99 for the full-day workshop. Non-members pay $99 for the half-day workshop and $179 for the full-day workshop. PHCA is scheduling additional workshops in the Lehigh Valley and Pittsburgh areas in late July. Dates will be announced soon.

Admissions Workshop (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM): Facilities are used to relying solely on their admissions coordinator to handle admissions, but under PDPM, providers need to involve more team members in the pre-admission screening process to ensure residents are properly screened for cost and potential revenue. This interactive session will provide attendees with case studies and group exercise focused on modeling, capturing, and documenting the new payment drivers.

Medicare Billing Workshop (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM): Billing is the last line of defense! The new PDPM environment utilizes the primary patient diagnosis as the key determinant of payment. With nearly 30,000 possible composite scores and few billing edits, the Medicare biller is the only thing keeping a non-compliant or down-coded claim from the payment vortex. Many PDPM combinations are mutually exclusive – Illogical. The session will teach attendees how to identify and correct patient claims.
