A-7: Using Your Ombudsman in Person-Centered Care
The Ombudsman Program was mandated for each state in the OBRA ’87 legislation. Ombudsman means advocate requiring the Ombudsman to be an advocate for the resident. The role has evolved over the years but remains one of referral and advocacy for the resident only. Working with your Ombudsman and facilitating a PEER program is a smart way for the nursing homes and personal care homes to help avoid resident rights’ deficiencies during survey.
